Hawaii's Volcanoes, Waterfalls and Stars

Join me in Hawaii for four full days of photographing abundant waterfalls, lush botanical gardens, black sand beaches and the amazing night sky. The Big Island of Hawaii is a photographer’s paradise. We will explore the diverse scenery from fern forests to beautiful palm tree lined beaches and lava fields.

Photograph the rising sun over the ocean surf or delicate tropical flowers. Learn tips for photographing the ocean and long exposures of the waves. You are sure to come away with many new photography skills and incredible images.

The workshop is balanced with lectures and critiques during the day and photography sessions in the morning and evening. There will be little down time but it will be worth the effort!

The Big Island of Hawaii is one of my favorite places to photograph and we will take you to breathtaking locations that I enjoy the most. Weather permitting we will visit Mauna Kea, at 9,200 feet at the visitor’s center and the summit is at 13,796 feet.

The workshop is limited to 16 students so you will have plenty of attention and support from Jennifer Wu and one of our highly skilled Canon Technical Specialists. Throughout the course students will learn professional insights and techniques, and have the opportunity to print 1-2 of their images on a PIXMA Pro printer as well as learn essential processing tips.

What you will learn from workshop:

Creating compelling compositions in nature
Custom camera settings and operations for nature photography
Critiques to open your eyes and improve your photographic skills
Techniques for using filters and reflectors
Learn the basics on how to photograph the stars & the Milky Way

What to bring:

Please bring your favorite camera, together with any lenses you want to shoot with (wide angle, tele-photo and macro), plenty of charged battery packs and memory cards, a sturdy tripod and a laptop computer for downloading images. You will also have the opportunity to submit images to the on-site technical representative who will make one or two prints for you to take home.

Skill level:

The workshop is for advanced beginner to intermediate and advanced photographers will learn something new and enjoy photographing Hawaii. This is not for beginners as you will need to be able to operate your camera in the dark. Attendees should have a basic working knowledge of their camera as well as how to use manual mode, using f/stop and shutter speeds and downloading images to your computer. Basic Photoshop or Lightroom skills are recommended. This workshop is for photographers looking to learn more about nature photography composition. There will be some light hiking on unlevel ground for about 1 mile. Possible walking around short distances at high elevations, weather permitting.
